"But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." -Matthew 13:23
You and I live in a large field. There are many types of plants in it. Some of these plants are vegetables, others are fruits; some reap their fruit above the ground while others grow it in the soil of the earth. However, not all of the seeds are sown in good soil. There are weeds in some places. They block out the sunlight and steal the nutrients in the ground. In other sections of the field, there are stones and rocks that make it difficult for the plants to take root. There are parts of the soil that don't receive enough rain, and other parts where birds come sweeping in to steal the seeds before they can transform into plants at all. By the end of the season, only a portion of the fruits and vegetables are left.
Who survives?
The seeds that grow in the good soil. In more literal terms, they are the people who have had their hearts transformed by the Holy Spirit.
In this blog, it is my goal to do what I can as one of the workers in this field of a world we live in: to sow new seeds and water the garden that is already growing. I am going to keep all the focus on what comes from God's word for the purposes of teaching and evangelizing youths and young adults. This world can be a tough place to grow in as believers, and it's not always easy to clearly see how to live in a way that reflects the life of Jesus. Here in this blog, I will be sowing many seeds that will take root in many kinds of soil, both good and bad. My prayer for you is that you will be a seed that grows from good soil so that you will bear much fruit and be equipped to spread some seeds yourself.
